How To Clean Your Diamond Jewelry

Diamonds are one of the most beautiful materials found on this earth, but they can still be victim to dirt and grime. If you are a newly engaged bride-to-be, or just looking for some new “bling,” you will want to keep that diamond jewelry beautiful for years to come. With the right supplies, cleaning your diamond jewelry can be a cinch by following the steps below.

How to Clean Your Diamond Jewelry

  1. First, you should close the drain of the sink or insert a strainer. You don't want to see your diamond jewelry slipping down the drain!
  2. Fill the sink with hot water. Use rubber gloves to protect your hands from the heat.
  3. Add a small amount of mild detergent and mix.
  4. Place the ring in the sink or a small dish filled with this detergent-water solution and soak it for about 10 minutes.
  5. After the ring has soaked, move it to another dish filled with window cleaner. Alternatively, you may use professional cleaning liquid designed specifically for jewelry use. (Of course, Diamond Castle sells professional cleaner in our store!) Cover the ring entirely with the cleaner. Allow the ring to soak for an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Using a soft toothbrush, gently brush away dirt and build-up from the ring. Be careful not to scratch the metal setting with the bristles and pay careful attention to the back of the diamond as this is a prime area for build-up that reduces the sparkle of the diamond.
  7. Return the diamond to the detergent and water solution and swish around to remove any loose dirt.
  8. Rinse thoroughly under hot, running water. Remember to keep the drain plugged or have a strainer inserted at all times.
  9. Allow the jewelry to air dry or dry with a lint-free cloth.
  10. Check the prongs for any movement and ensure all dirt has been removed. If you notice any movement of the stone(s) at all, bring the ring in to our repair center immediately to have the prongs professionally tightened.
  11. For the ultimate in cleaning, we recommend your rings be professionally checked, cleaned, polished, and have rhodium applied to restore your ring to a like-new finish. Our on-site repair center can do this for you - while you watch - for a minimal fee.
